Riding the dragon.

I’m happy to be in the full swing of things as the summer has finally arrived…shifting gears from weddings to private events, then to singer/songwriter performances. There’s a chaos about it. Every year you think you can somehow manage it better, but then something changes. New things creep in.

Wedding work is always engaging. Audiences are changing, and after a decade of performing full-time, you suddenly realize that your playlist has gotten rather large. It’s wild as you keep adding new songs, yet keep older ones on file. The span of music is wide, and always relevant for this type of audience. Just when you think it’s time to drop an obscure Hozier track, you get a whole bunch of requests for it.

In comparison, my singer/songwriter shows are rather stable. I’m in the midst of laying down guitar tracks for an album, so this material is always in the forefront… belaboured to agonizing detail. The material is wired, and the performances are sounding great.

I’m excited about a series of upcoming singer/songwriter shows this summer. Just enough dates to break up the wedding work, but not too many where you start to get exhausted. All of the shows are in cottage country. All are at great venues. Some new. Many familiar.

I look forward to making new friends and seeing some familiar faces.
