Meeting people who share the same passion for craftsmanship and detail is a rare thing. Rarer still is when your life and career paths have crossed similar intersections. When I first met Ashley and Steve, I think we spent more time chatting instead of going through music…

From our small-town roots to our work in advertising, Ashley and I shared a lot in common. Steve also competed for many years as a varsity athlete. I always find a strange kinship between athletes and musicians. The focused pursuit of a single goal seems to draw us together.

In terms of locations, Ashley and Steve’s wedding day was absolutely stunning. The ceremony was held at Ridley College Chapel in St. Catherines. It’s a beautiful stone church with incredible stained glass and a thunderous sound.

Musically, the ceremony was a unique blend of new and old. Pre-ceremony music ranged from contemporary artists such as Maroon 5 and Ben Harper, to classic artists such as Fleetwood Mac. The processional and recessional took on a formal tone; with music being covered by Ridley’s organist. For the signing, I performed Elvis’ Can’t Help Falling in Love With You. It was a great counterpoint to the sound of the organ.

The cocktail hour and reception were held at Southbrook Vineyards in Niagara-on-the-Lake. One of the region’s highlights, Southbrook has won numerous architectural and design awards. It has an openness that embraces the surrounding environment, combined with a warmth that you don’t find in a lot of modern buildings.

And, almost as if ordered on cue, the cocktail hour concluded with a final clearing of the skies–complete with a rainbow.

It was an honour to be a part of the day.
