Bell TIFF Lightbox, Toronto, ON, December 2010
Not that I’m a huge fan of February in Canada, but this deepest point of winter always reminds me that we’ve just passed through the darkest point.
It reminds me of this photo taken in December while sound-checking for a private function at the Bell TIFF Lightbox in Toronto. It’s always tough from a photographer’s standpoint to balance dark and light. Not much different than getting through winter, really. Cold, dark air. Pristine, glistening snow outside. Feeling a little trapped, but somehow expansive at the same time.
I love how this photo just focuses in on the carpet in the foreground. It draws you into the length of the room. It’s much like February. One slow step after another. Sunset getting later each day. Spring coming closer into view.
Had a great day at the National Bridal Show last Saturday. Met lots of interesting people, including Angelique Sobschak from Rich Bride, Poor Bride. Always nice to chat with people pushing the edges of event creativity.
The Dave Matthews Band. Making some interesting musical detours right now. I haven’t gone fully digital with my music collection yet. Not sure if I want to, really. iPods allow you jump around so maniacally. Good in some ways. Negative in others. Sometimes it’s good to just put in a disc. Let it draw you in. Focus a little more. Open up to another perspective before you jump around to the next distraction. Put in Dave Matthew’s Everyday. I’m not normally a fan, but everything on this album is phenomenal.
