April was an uncharacteristically busy month that saw three wedding performances.

It was a pleasure to return to Vintage Hotels’ Pillar and Post (Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON), as well as the Inn on the Twenty (Jordan, ON). I also performed for my first time at the Glenerin Inn (Mississauga, ON).

Working at weddings and private events affords one the opportunity to perform at so many different venues. You get to see them all at their best, fully decorated, ready to wow and entertain. Each one has it’s own unique charms: The enveloping warmth of the Pillar and Post. The beautiful-sounding resonance of Inn on the Twenty’s wine cellar. Glenerin Inn’s 360 degree altar view in the Evans Room.

By far my favourite thing, however, is getting to know each couple. The subtleties that make for their unique soundtracks. The creative transitions that only make sense for that couple, for their group of friends and family, at that particular moment.

You hit these hypnotic spells during each event, where you can feel that you’ve hit the cue perfectly, or made just the right change. You get a nod, wink or smile from one of the guests. You see the tears start to well up. You feel the air get sucked out of the room right before the big moment.

It truly is an honor and a pleasure. Many thanks to Norma, Thomas, Liz, Matt, Amy, Dave and their families for letting me take part in their special days. Thank you, as well, to Callie Haining (Pillar and Post), Grace McQuarrie (Inn on the Twenty), Alex Benes (Inn on the Twenty), Faye Kotyck (Glenerin Inn) and Pratik (Glenerin Inn) for all their hard work behind the scenes.

New shows at the Canadian Canoe Museum and Graydon Hall Manor.

The summer is starting to shape up in fine form with recent wedding performances added at the Canadian Canoe Museum (Peterborough, ON) and Graydon Hall Manor (Toronto, ON).

I’ve been to the Canadian Canoe Museum on a number of different occasions, and have always wanted to perform there. It is a visually stunning venue, and looks to provide phenomenal acoustics.

Getting back to Graydon Hall Manor (Toronto, ON) is a welcome experience. I have performed here a number of times before. What I call Toronto’s ‘Palace of Versailles,’ Graydon Hall is one of the most beautiful venues I’ve worked at in the city.

I’ve been getting some great feedback on the two new instrumental guitar recordings I put up online last week. Right now, I’m finishing up percussion on two new additions to the library: The Lumineers’ Ho Hey and Led Zeppelin’s Tangerine.
