Some notes about the song…
This song really solidified for me while on a long drive through the state of Georgia. There’s something about a long drive that puts you in a reflective mood.
The main riff for this song has been around for years, but lyrics never stuck. While driving through the twilight, the idea of expanse and transition took hold. Day to night. South to North. Past to future. It’s about moving forward and letting go of things: people, experiences, assumptions.
I love the layers in this song. The main acoustic guitar part has haunting, suspended chords. I put stereo electric guitars throughout, constantly changing chord shapes, giving different hues to the main acoustic track. There are a lot of sweeping arpeggios up the middle, and a big, moving bass line.
I took a lot of time with the solos, coming at them on different days, with different sounds, and from different angles. I was looking for something un-planned, inspiring and off-the-cuff.
I hope you enjoy the track.
